It slices, it dices, it… shit, I told you it slices! Thirsting for more, I eagerly awaited the anticipated sequel that would eventually arrive several years later during January 2011. In fact, I played that game twice through its lifetime. I was surprised to find many different elements that the game incorporated and how accessible the title was. Taking cues from other survival horror games, especially from Resident Evil (who Visceral Games were big fans of), Dead Space was easily one of my favorite games. Set far ahead in the future, the story of Dead Space revolved around combining sci-fi survival horror, nasty aliens called necromorphs, religion, and a hefty amount of action. In 2008, EA and a new and upcoming development crew, Visceral Games, shocked the gaming world with a new survival horror game. I found it fitting to revisit it due to the rumor that EA and Motive Studios have confirmed the Dead Space Remake for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC – it’s only for next-gen consoles and PC. We need remakes that can stand on their own.I originally wrote this piece back in 2016, regarding the fate of Dead Space. That's why I hope devs don't take the wrong lessons from Dead Space. If every remake was like Demon's Souls, I would absolutely understand the complaint that they are useless. A full-on reimagination of a classic that ends up being its own take and experience, while the OG isn't replaced and both games can be played for different thrills. This seem to be what Dead Space Remake is, which is fine.īut my favorite type of remakes is RE2R/RE3R style. Not totally the same as the OG + A number of addition but overall, staying very faithful. RE1make style is cool but not my favorite. That's boring as fuck and completely remove the OG from the equation while also not making itself its own experience. Straight up the exact same game beginning to end, just better looking. I'd say this : In my opinion, the worst possible kind of remake is something like Demon's Souls/TLOUP1. So RE4R will deviate more than some people think, and thank god. But Dev1 stepped in and took the project because the devs were making a 1/1 remake of RE4 after 3's Backlash. Reminder that the people behind RE3R were initially the ones working on RE4R.
